Ashura Awarness Week 2010

A three day Awarness Campaign was held at the main reception in the Kingston Penrhyn Road Campus. Every year Muslims around the world commerate the aniversary of the Martydom of Imam Hussain the Grandson of the Prophet Mohammed Peace and Blessings Be Upon them. After more than 1400 years on, Muslims still remember the brave stand that Imam Hussain took against the Evil Dictator at that time. It was a stand for Freedom, Justice and Truth which is a message for which all humans should always stand for. A fierce battle took place on a day named 'Ashura' which means the tenth (of the 1st month of the Islamic calender, Muharram).

Freshers Fare 2010

On Thursday and Friday, 23rd and 24th of September 2010, AhlulBayt Islamic Society welcomed the new students to Kingston University at the Freshers' Fayre. Students of all backgrounds and religions came to our stall to find out more about Islam and our society and they often left with the free books offered by our society. AhlulBayt Islamic Society offered a wide range of free books including the "Holy Quran", "Lessons from Islam", "Steps Towards Peace", "Biography of Prophet Muhammed", "Master and Mastership", "The Shi'a Origin and Faith" and many more. We also had visitors from two local churches, police and lecturers as well as the staff of Kingston University who visited the stall of AhlulBayt Islamic Society. We also used this opportunity to effectively engage with our neighbouring stalls who represented other religions and faiths at Kingston University. During the two-day event more than 150 new members joined AhlulBayt Islamic Society.

Islam Exhibition 2010

An exhibition which represented the 6 main beliefs in Islam, 1. Polytheism 2. Prayers 3. Fasting 4. Pilgrimage 5. Fasting 6. Day of Judgement. A model of the Holy Ka'abah was on show along with other symbols and models. An original piece of cloth from the Ka'aba was also on show at the exhibition.

A Christian Reflects on Hussain and Ashura 2009

An unmissable lecture! Many of you have heard the tragedy of Karbala through the Muslims perspective, but now is the chance where you can discover the true greatness of Husayn (The Grandson of the Prophet pbuh) and how much impact he has on many not just one sect or religion.

Dr Chris Hewer is the St Ethelburga Fellow in Christian-Muslim Relations. Chris has a background in Christian theology, education and Islamic Studies and has worked in the field of Muslims in Britain and Christian-Muslim relations since 1986. From 1999 to 2005 worked as the Adviser on Inter-Faith Relations to the Bishop of Birmingham. He is the author of the recently published "Understanding Islam".

Islam Awarness Week 2009

A week's stall at the university's front entrance desk where free books and leaflets were availuble to pick up. The books included topics on Islamic Ethics, Youth, Beliefs, Introduction to Islam and many more. Usefull discussions and debates took place with Non-Muslims and Muslims, where certain issues were clarified and a more better understanding of Islam was acheived.

Ashura Awarness Week 2009

A stall will be up and running for 3 days for Muslims and Non-Muslims to pick up books and leaflets. Also there will be a small exhibition for students to view. There will also be room for questions and discussions. It will be held in the Penrhyn Road campus canteen entrance.

Controversy about Mut'a, Misyar and Urfi 2009


The lecture examined the background of the different temporary marriages within Islam and which personalities were involved in the act. Did Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) abrogate the act during his life time or was it deemed as part of the Islamic Law? What are the legal boundaries which must be honoured and is there a possibility of abuse in 21st century implementation? Can such a marriage be used as a means of dating at university or as a bridge to early marriage? The importance of permanent marriage will also be examined and the obstacles which many face in seeking to get married while at university. The lecture was given by Sayed Ammar Nakshawani.

Who are the Shia Muslims? 2009

An opportunity for Muslims and non-Muslims to find out more about one of the main sects in Islam, the Shia. The lecture aimed at clearing the different controversies that many faced when hearing about the Shia sect.

Ahlulbayt Awarness Week 2009
Free water, leaflets and books were given out which intends to propagate and promote the teachings, morals, ethics, piety, devotion, love, peace and respect that was taught by the Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon him) & his holy family and descendants (Peace be on them).

Islamic Exhibition: Hussain The Revolutionist 2009

An Exhibition about the Grandson of The Holy Prophet (peace be upon Him) and his sacrifise which he made to keep the religioun of Islam alive up to this day. He is seen as the greatest Revolutionist in the history of Islam, whos actions can be learned from up to this day.
